Best Christian Apps

About Best Christian Apps

Best Christian Apps is an independent directory of the best apps for Christian faith and practice. Every app on this site is installed and tested hands-on; the write-ups are AI-assisted from our raw notes, screenshots, and screen recordings.

A note from the founder

I'm Sankalp. I'm from India, born into a Hindu family. A few months ago, during a hard stretch of my life, I watched a Black church service video for the first time and was completely blown away by the gospel music, the passionate singing and dancing, and that incredible sense of community. It was exactly what my soul needed, and it sparked a deep curiosity to understand Christianity more thoroughly.

As part of that exploration, I started looking for the right tools to read scripture, follow daily devotionals, and learn how Christians pray. I tried YouVersion. Then Logos. Then a dozen more. Most "best Christian apps" lists I found online were generic AI-generated rankings or pay-to-play recommendations from sites that had clearly never opened the app. As someone trying to actually use these apps to learn, I couldn't find an honest, hands-on review from a real person who had spent real time inside the app.

I've always found joy in researching things that fascinate me and sharing what I learn through technology. So instead of staying frustrated, I started installing every Christian app I could find, using each for at least a week, and taking detailed notes — screenshots, screen recordings, voice memos, written reflections — on what worked and what didn't. This site is the result.

For the broader story behind why I started this whole journey — including how it all began with Black church music — here's an original Reddit post I wrote about it.

About the writing

The testing is entirely hands-on. The writing is not. After using an app, we capture raw findings — typed notes, screenshots, screen recordings, voice memos — and feed those raw findings through AI to be organized into the structured review you see on the page. The judgments, scores, rankings, and "best for / not for" calls all reflect our actual experience with the app. AI is a writing tool here, not the judge.

We chose this approach because it lets us cover more apps, more thoroughly, without compromising the honesty of the recommendation. As someone who is exploring Christianity from the outside, the upside of having no theological tribe is that the rankings have no allegiance to any particular tradition. Every category page labels theological orientation (Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, ecumenical) so the recommendation matches your church.

How this directory is run

We deliberately publish fewer guides in greater depth, rather than scraping app stores for hundreds of mediocre options. Each new category is researched, written, and tested before publishing — and we add new categories slowly, on purpose.
